Doll making at Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens, 23-24 November 2019

In this two day, weekend workshop you will learn some of my favourite doll making techniques and create your own small art doll.   Rather than creating a “Pale Rook” style doll, you’ll be guided in making a doll that reflects and expresses your own creative voice.

We’ll be working with;

  • hand sewing
  • vegetable, clay and plant dyes
  • embroidery
  • wire wrapping
  • layered fabrics (Kantha embroidery)
  • needle felting
  • basic pattern cutting for doll making
  • hand drawing faces and details

As well as these practical and technical elements, you’ll be guided in using techniques and tools to help you work through blocks and open up your own creative process.

As this will be an intensive two day course, you’ll be given homework to do in the month leading up to the workshop, where you will begin to research and gather ideas.  You’ll have regular guidance from me and the homework can be as intense or minimal as suits you.

Basic sewing skills and previous experience of crafting with textiles will be useful, but the workshop will be tailored to meet each individual participant, so all skill levels are welcome.  Please contact me if you have any additional or specific needs.

All the basic materials you will need for the course will be provided, as well vegetable dyes.  I ask that everyone brings their own tools ( a list will be provided well in advance), and you may wish to bring fabrics, trimmings, beads, fleece,seashells, etc. from your own collection to add to your work.

Our venue is Glasgow’s stunning Botanic Gardens.  We’ll be working in a cosy private room behind the tropical glass house.   Tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks will be provided in the classroom, and there are many lovely cafes, restaurants and bars in the area, as well as the Tea Room in the Gardens.

The course fee is £162 and you can book via my Etsy shop from Sunday the 15th of September at 8pm (UK time).
